Freddy Guevara rejected that opposition governors ask to lift the sanctions

“No sanction or pressure on the dictatorship can be eased as long as there is no progress for human rights and democracy,” said Freddy Guevara, opposition leader in exile and member of the negotiating table in Mexico for the Unitary Platform.

Freddie Guevarapresident of the Foreign Policy and Sovereignty Commission of the National Assembly (AN) 2015, rejected the call of some Venezuelan governors and political leaders, for the United States to lift the sanctions against the regime of Nicolás Maduro.

Through his Twitter account, on Friday, January 27, he wrote: “I express my absolute rejection of the call of some governors and leaders for the US to lift sanctions on the dictatorship without this implying progress for the return of democracy to Venezuela.” .

He added that he will do everything in his power to transmit to “leaders, Senators, and Congressmen of the United States the need to maintain the policy that they themselves have affirmed: no sanction or pressure on the dictatorship can be alleviated as long as there are no advances for the Human rights and democracy”.

This response is given after last Thursday, January 26, the president Nicolás Maduro asked the governors and mayors to unite to demand the cessation of coercive measures: “We have to carry out a global campaign so that the United States lifts all sanctions and Venezuela returns to productive, economic, commercial, oil and energy normality,” he exhorted.

That meeting took place at the Miraflores Palace where the first plenary session of the Federal Council of Government was held in 2023. “I ask all the governors present here to join in one only voice to demand that the United States government end criminal sanctions against the country. Those resources will go to the Federal Council of Government,” Maduro said.

The opposition governors participated there: Sergio Garrido (Barinas), Alberto Galíndez (Cojedes), Morel Rodríguez (Nueva Esparta) and Manuel Rosales (Zulia), the latter requested a few days ago the lifting of international sanctions against the regime for considering that “suffocate” the people.
