Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley will announce on Monday, January 16, at 10:00 am, his decision on the Prosecutor’s request for nine months of pretrial detention against the ex-congressman Freddy Diazwho was disqualified yesterday afternoon by the plenary session of the Congress of the Republic, after a reconsideration of the initial vote.
This morning, the Supreme Court heard in a virtual hearing that was carried out in a confidential manner, the arguments that support the request for preventive detention against the former legislator in the framework of the investigation of the alleged crime of rape to the detriment of a Parliament worker, who was in a state of incapacity to defend himself at the time of the facts according to his testimony.

Sources from the Public Ministry confirmed to Peru21 that this Monday Judge Checkley will announce his final decision on the case.
As indicated by the prosecutionthere are conditions for the danger of flight due to the seriousness of the crime, the magnitude of the damage caused, the lack of voluntary attitude to repair or reduce the damage to the victim, and Díaz’s conduct after being denounced, which was to go to hiding for a few days and missing his first summons at the Prosecutor’s Office.
In this morning’s hearing, initially scheduled for yesterday and rescheduled for today at 8:30 am, former attorney Jose Ugaz also participated as the victim’s legal defense.
