Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry asked a National District Court to impose preventive detention, as a measure of coercion, against a woman and a man arrested for a fraud of more than eleven million pesos perpetrated by a criminal structure that violated the digital and financial network of a banking entity.
The accused Cristina Evelyn Peguero Sánchez and Darwin Emmanuel Jacobo were arrested during an operation of the National Directorate for Financial Crimes Investigation, attached to the General Directorate of Persecution of the Public Ministry, which included four simultaneous raids in different sectors of San Pedro de Macorís and San Juan de la Maguana.
The operation was led by the prosecutors Lewina Tavárez Gil, interim responsible for the National Directorate for Financial Crimes, and the inspection Margaret Cabrera Morillo, with the support of members of the Central Intelligence Directorate (Dintel) of the National Police.
The Public Ministry requested the imposition of preventive detention against the accused indicated as part of a criminal network that, together with other still fugitive individuals, operated between June 1, 2024 and May 14, 2025, to violate the digital and financial network of a banking entity, managing to cheat with the sum of eleven million one hundred and thirty -one thousand two hundred Dominican pesos (RD $ 11,131,200.00).
Judge Fatima Veloz Suárez, head of the tenth Court of the National District, postponed the hearing for this Sunday, September 7, 2025, in order to allow the defendants of the accused to present roots budgets.
The Public Ministry imputes violations of articles 265 and 266 of the Dominican Criminal Code, articles 14 and 15 of Law 53-07, on Crimes and Crimes of High Technology, as well as Law 155-17 against the money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
The persecuting body argues that it is a highly structured criminal network and requests the imposition of preventive detention as a necessary measure to guarantee the correct continuation of the process, safeguard the integrity of the investigation and ensure the appearance of the accused, while the investigations continue in progress.
