The ex-president Francis Sagasti insisted on his proposal that there be a early elections or a cut of the mandate, when evaluating that both the Government of Pedro Castillo and the Congress are working at the “lowest political level”.
“We see the Executive that has been going down for its part, basically becoming a permanent campaign mechanism. The Decentralized Councils of Ministers are not Councils of Ministers. Anyone who has attended a real Council of Ministers where decisions are made realizes that these decentralized councils are campaign rallies with a laptop and everything”stated in an interview with RPP this Saturday, May 14.
“That’s not how you govern, that’s how you campaign”he added.
Francisco Sagasti also indicated that Parliament has lowered its level with the approval of laws in the educational sector and other fields.
“The two are half content with each other to remain at the lowest political level, as long as their survival is guaranteed.”he stated.
The former congressman and former president insisted, given this situation, on the proposal that the elections be brought forward as he did a month ago through the publication of an opinion column where he called for citizens to present a bill.
Sagasti assured that he has spoken with “about five groups” that have approached him to agree on proposals that allow a rule for early elections and the proposal of a set of minimum rules for the coming years.
“(It should) set the tone for this Congress that will come for three years and the Executive with a program of substantive reforms that could be discussed not now but in three years, and a minimum program for the Executive of re-institutionalization and regeneration of the apparatus public that is now being demolished”he concluded.
