Francisco: "Nothing important will be achieved with aggressive polarization" in Argentina

The Pontiff thanked the act of recognition of his figure carried out in the Cathedral of the Buenos Aires capital.

Pope Francis warned that “nothing important will be achieved with aggressive polarization” in Argentina, through a letter sent to the Archbishop of La Plata, Monsignor Víctor Manuel Fernández, in which he thanked him for the act carried out days ago in the Cathedral of that city and that It was attended by official and opposition leaders.

In the letter, dated October 1 and published last night by Fernández on his social networks, the Pontiff thanked the act of recognition of his figure carried out in the Cathedral of the Buenos Aires capital.

In that act were Governor Axel Kicillof and his cabinet; mayors Julio Garro (La Plata), Mario Secco (Ensenada), Fabián Cagliardi (Berisso) and Gonzalo Peluso (Magdalena), and legislators from all political parties, as well as union representatives and representatives of different faiths.

In addition, a large number of residents and workers grouped in different guilds came to the cathedral and followed the tribute from the steps of the church through screens.

“I received several repercussions from the event that was organized last Thursday 29 in the Cathedral of La Plata and I want to send my heartfelt thanks to those who attended. I liked that it was not a ‘tribute’ but an act of affection and recognition that expresses the ties that unite us,” said Jorge Bergoglio.

“Although now I have a debt with the whole world and I still have to visit many big countries, especially some that have never received a visit from a Pope, nevertheless I always carry my Argentina in my heart”he continued.

He showed his joy because in that meeting “some contents of ‘Laudato si’ and ‘Fratelli tutti’ were reflected on”, although he clarified: “Not because they are my documents, but because they speak of serious and determining issues that we cannot ignore today for the good progress of the nations”.

He highlighted the fact that “sectors of all colors of politics, other religious confessions, people from education, culture, business, justice” were represented at the event.

And he stressed that “along with them were the most humble workers and the poor who walked as social movements, sustained by their faith and carrying the Virgin and Saint Cajetan. Together they have formed a beautiful picture,” he stressed.

“Definitely My soul consoles me that my person has made this moment of communion possiblemeeting beyond differences, because sometimes these small ‘truces’ prevent violence and confrontations from advancing,” the Pope said.

He maintained that “this is never good for a country and ends up hurting, above all, those who suffer the most,” and indicated that “there is much to be done in Argentina, so that everyone can live with the dignity of work and so that there are no citizens of second”.

“But nothing important or stable will be achieved with aggressive polarization,” the priest reflected and sent his “affectionate blessing” to all, asking “the Lord to make them architects of peace, justice and prosperity.”
