Francisco Javier Guerrero*: Laura Itzel’s libertarian dreams

H

Ace a lot Time, in 1965, I had a gratifying conversation with the great artist and architect Juan O’Gorman, and remember that this year the 120 years of his birth are commemorated. In that talk that famous painter instructed me a lot about the march of socialism and the advances of workers throughout the planet. Almost 20 years later, with surprise and displeasure I read an interview that O’Gorman granted to a reporter from the magazine Claudia, which was edited by a newspaper of national circulation. There, that famous artist showed enormous depression and in fact referred to the uselessness of his own work. That reading convinced me that Diego Rivera’s illustrious colleague had suicidal ideas and a short time later I learned that he had removed his life in 1982.

Juan had noticed the impetuous progress of more raptor capitalism in the world and the growing withdrawal of the organized left, as well as the collapse of the so -called real socialism; He was involved in depression and lost the existential compass.

In 1990, architect Laura Itzel Castillo was a candidate by the Democratic Revolution Party to the Assembly of Representatives of the Federal District. I was appointed his substitute for the same party organization. He knew of the existence of Laura because he had been integrated from the already fallen Mexican Workers Party and the Mexican Socialist Party. He knew about his architectural works at the 21st century National Medical Center and in relation to workers’ homes at the Metropolitan Autonomous University. Naturally, I was aware that she was the daughter of an excellent engineer and remarkable social fighter, who, as is known, responded to the name of Heberto Castillo.

When I met Laura, at the beginning of the 90s, I was surprised that she was not an apoltronada and crowded leftist like many people who presume to be of that political affiliation. Behind her appearance as a graduate girl in a private university, she was a hawthful and burning political militant who fought tirelessly for the materialization of her libertarian dreams, dreamlike elements in which the emancipation of workers becomes completely real. In the campaign for the Assembly of Representatives I was the one who barely followed Laura’s march in pursuit of her libertarian expectations.

Today Laura belongs to the Morena Party and is the president of the Senate of the Republic. She knows that this political group is the result of a popular movement in which there is a broad number of social fighters, but “chapulines”, arrivist and achievements that can lead to the morenista force to fall into the precipice of the perredization, if Morena fails to be a fundamental engine in the organization of workers from below, which is not achieved simply by means of a set of social programs, since these are reformist mechanisms granted from politician It is not just about simply recruiting many mi-llones and supporters, but they carry out essential tasks marked in a political program, which must be elaborated in full internal democracy.

It is very important to add something essential: the Senate is the key institution in regard to the foreign policy of the Mexican government. Within this framework, support for the Palestinian people who currently suffer from a genocide perpetrated by the Israel government is essential and if it continues, all the world’s favorable world policy favorable to the self -determination of the peoples will fall apart and the door will be opened to other genocides; Let us not forget that in the United States there are white supremacists that not only demand the deportations of our compatriots and other groups of migrants based in that country, but also advocate for their physical elimination and on that particular we have enough evidence in the Permanent Seminar of Chicanos and Border Studies, Academic Department of the National Institute of Anthropology and History. Laura knows very well that what happens in the Gaza Strip is an atrocious crime and it seems to me that she should rule for a breakdown of relations with the Netanyahu government.

Laura has not lost her internal flare as Juan lost it, and I am sure she will live with her in all her plethoric existence.
