After the magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal (TE) revoked the decision authorizing the lifting of former President Ricardo Martinelli’s criminal electoral jurisdiction, the lawyer and political analyst, Francisco “Paco” Carreira, described this fact as a legal aberration.
“What we are seeing here is a legal aberration created by the National Assembly in which an electoral privilege is granted to candidates or to people who are involved in the internal elections of the parties and then when there is an electoral campaign. This is an aberration because it is incredible that people who want to be linked to running the country, to participate in the Assembly, to participate in public positions, have this protection and shield for common crimes”, he explained.
He added that this prevents them from being brought to trial and what it does is that it favors the prescription of cases.
“This is immoral and shameless as an institution in the first place, this should not exist in any way, but hey, it is a law that we have to respect,” the jurist remarked.
