The new president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, invested Francia Márquez as vice president for the next four years. “I swear to God and to the people to faithfully comply with the Constitution and the laws of Colombia and I also swear before my ancestors and ancestors,” said Márquez, in his oath, in which he added his already characteristic phrase: “Until dignity becomes a habit.”

The arrival of Márquez to the Vice Presidency is a milestone for coming from Suárez, in the department of Cauca, an area hit by the armed conflict and for being a victim herself, who had to leave her community due to threats.

During his speech, the new president of Colombia also commented that France would be the Minister in the Equality portfolio, which would be created in this government.
It is worth noting that the Congress of the Republic issued Law 489 of 1998, which contains the general rules on the creation, organization and functions of the ministries, as well as that of the other dependencies with jurisdiction throughout the country.
As a result of this law, the creation of a ministry is the responsibility of the executive, and can be carried out issuing a series of decrees in which are its main functions and structure.
