France will regulate the profession of “influencer”

Influencer, Francia

MIAMI, United States. – The French government announced this week that it will regulate the work of the so-called influencers of social networks in order to establish a series of rights and obligations for content creators and protect their intellectual rights, according to the news agency EFE.

Last Sunday, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the European country launched an online public consultation to receive opinions from the population in order to draft the regulations.

The future law, the French authorities have expressed, will seek to legally define the work of influencers as content creators and their agents, as well as their rights and obligations.

Likewise, it will establish a written contract and a series of obligations established between these public figures and the brands or agencies with which they work. At the same time, it will propose the creation of an information site for professionals in the sector in order to protect their copyrights.

On the other hand, to protect the consumer, it will indicate the creation of a “good practice guide” and a web page dedicated to content creators.

In parallel to the public consultation launched by the French authorities, eight working groups between the Department of Economy and Finance and different professionals will analyze in January and February the four major themes established to “launch fair, proportionate measures that protect creativity and that they respect the rights of consumers”.

According to the head of that entity, Bruno Le Maire ―quoted by EFE―, in France there are 150,000 content creators who constitute “a formidable source of creativity and wealth when the rules are clear and known.”

Starting from the fact that the activity of the influencers “represents an opportunity for personal and professional development”, Le Maire indicated that the authorities must “accompany them correctly, without weighing disproportionate obligations on the sector”.
