The President FrenchEmmanuel Macron, announced Thursday that France will recognize the Palestinian State. The announcement was released in a letter to the President of the National Palestinian Authority (ANP), Mahmud Abás.
“Faithful to its historical commitment to a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France recognizes the state of Palestine,” Macron announced from his account on social network X, where he shared the letter sent to the Palestinian leader.

The president said he will formalize that recognition in the UN General Assembly next September.
In his letter, Macron advocated that the state of Palestine is finally built, in addition to “ensuring its viability and allowing, accepting its demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel, participate in everyone’s security in the Middle East. There is no alternative”.
With the recognition of Palestine, France also seeks to mobilize “all its international partners who want to participate” in La Paz in the region. For the Gallic President, “it is necessary to guarantee the demilitarization of Hamas” to be able to “ensure and rebuild Gaza”.

“The French want peace in the Middle East. It is up to us, the French, along with the Israelis, the Palestinians and our European and international partners, demonstrate that it is possible,” added Macron, who said that “the emergency” at this time is that the war in Gaza and that its civilian population is treated.

On the other hand, the US government expressed its strong rejection of France’s decision to officially recognize the State of Palestine.
“This irresponsible decision only serves the propaganda of Hamas and represents a setback for peace. It is a slap on the face of the victims of October 7,” wrote the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in his official account of the social network X.
The US is one of Israel’s main allies and the Hebrew country is the main US foreign aid container, having accepted more than 310,000 million dollars in military and economic support since its foundation as a state in 1948.
For its part, the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas welcomed with satisfaction the statement of the president of France and considered it “a positive measure in the right direction to achieve justice for our oppressed Palestinian people,” he said in a statement this Thursday night.
