Paris. France will put an end to the health emergency regime for covid-19 and the health passport on August 1, according to a bill approved yesterday, which nevertheless allows tourists traveling to France to require a negative test.
The text ratifies the end of the state of health emergency and the exit regime (…), maintaining the minimum provisions necessary to continue protecting the French
assured the Minister of Health, François Braun, before its approval by the Senate.
The text, different from the one presented by the government to legislators, puts an end to the possibility of resorting to measures such as confinement, curfew or the use of mandatory masks from August 1 to stop the pandemic.
France also eliminates the use of the health passport, which allowed vaccinated people access to bars, restaurants or cinemas and which was suspended in March, except in hospitals, health centers and nursing homes.
When the seventh wave of covid-19 subsides in France, legislators opened the door to the reinstatement of medical personnel suspended from their employment and salary for not being vaccinated, once the sanitary conditions for their re-entry are met.
Average life expectancy in Germany fell markedly between 2019 and 2021, the national statistics office reported yesterday, a change it attributed to high mortality during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Federal Statistics Office said life expectancy for newborn girls was 83.2 years and for boys 78.2 years. It was a decrease of 0.4 and 0.6 years, respectively, compared to 2019, the last year before the pandemic. The main reason for this is the unusually high number of deaths during waves of covid-19
the office said in a statement.
A rise in the proportion of older people in the German population, to 83 million, has raised expectations of a rising death toll over the past 20 years, the office said, but life expectancy had risen before the pandemic.
Before covid-19, the annual average of deaths increased from one to 2 percent, but it was 5 points in 2020 and 4 percent last year; that is, in those two years there were between 70,000 and 100,000 more deaths than expected in the statistics.
The office said nearly 115,000 deaths from the coronavirus were reported in those two years.
The covid did start in China
An animal market in the Chinese city of Wuhan was the epicenter of the covid-19 pandemic, according to two new studies published yesterday by the magazine Science and who claim to have tipped the balance in the debate about the origin of the virus.
Answering the question of whether the disease arose naturally from animals to humans, or was the result of a laboratory accident, is considered vital to preventing the next pandemic and saving millions of lives.
The first article analyzed the geographical pattern of covid cases at the beginning of the outbreak, in December 2019, and showed that the first infections clustered around the Huanan market.
The second studied the genomic information of the first cases to analyze the early evolution of the virus, concluding that it was unlikely to circulate widely among humans before November 2019.
The covid-19 pandemic has left 572 million 7 thousand 820 confirmed cases and 6 million 388 thousand 331 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
