The vice president of Colombia, France Márquez, warned Monday at the United Nations headquarters that artificial intelligence (AI) It can aggravate racism and asked to create a global forum that specifically addresses this “threat” of new technologies.
Márquez made the call at the UN Headquarters in New York, during the fourth session of the Permanent Forum on Afro -descendants in the General Assemblywhere one of the points discussed was the need to build a more ethical and inclusive AI with this group.
“As a vice president I have made all the efforts within my reach to build a more just and equitable society, but the effort must be collective and all levels: I call (…) to create a global forum on AI and new technologies where the issues of racism and discrimination that our population suffers today is addressed“The Colombian official said.

Márquez, who declared to have received about 12,000 racist insults during his first year of mandate, denounced that “racism is expressed in a new scope of rapid development” which is AI and to which the youngest are especially exposed.
“It was time for states to define rules on the use and management of these technologies,” The vice president pointed out, noting that the use of AI is not “neutral or objective” and that it can “aggravate racial profile, stereotypes and prejudices that mostly affect Afro -descendant youth.”
