France invited Venezuelan delegations for dialogue in Mexico to meet in Paris

The meeting, to which Jorge Rodríguez and Gerardo Blyde were invited, would take place on the sidelines of the so-called Paris Forum for Peace, although the execution of that meeting has not yet been confirmed. If it happens, it is speculated that the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, may be present.

The founder and general director of the Paris Forum for Peace, Justin Vaïsse, reported that the president of the National Assembly elected in 2020, Jorge Rodríguez; and the opposition leader Gerardo Blyde, both heads of his delegations at the negotiating table in Mexico, were invited to that event in France that is sponsored by the French president, Emmanuel Macron.

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, could join the meeting, who will be on an official visit to France to participate in the Paris Forum for Peace and officially hold a bilateral meeting with Macron.

Vaïsse, who offered statements on Thursday, November 3, clarified that this meeting with the delegations of the ruling party and the opposition are not part of a negotiation, but rather they want to express their support for the initiative to sit down again in Mexico to dialogue, just as he stressed that the meeting is not confirmed at all.

If this meeting takes place, it is likely that the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy will also be present, Joseph Borrellwho in recent days called for “maximum political pressure” to be exerted to reactivate the dialogue, statements made by the first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, rejected and criticized.

If materialized, the meeting between Jorge Rodríguez and Gerardo Blyde, would take place on the sidelines of the acts of the Paris Forum for Peace, which will be held at Palacio Brogniart, the building of the old stock exchange in the French capital.

In addition, neither Blyde nor Rodríguez would participate separately in any of these acts, nor is it contemplated that they make any public appearance.

However, journalist Carla Angola stated in Twitter that for the moment that the heads of the delegations are going to have a meeting in Paris or Mexico.

This possible meeting in Paris is known after the Reuters news agency revealed the Wednesday, November 2 that the administration of Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan opposition plan to resume talks in Mexico this month, after more than a year unilaterally suspended by Chavismo after the extradition to the US of Colombian businessman Alex Saab from Cape Verde.
