The French government analyzes require vaccination against the coronavirus to all athletes who enter the country to compete in a sporting event.
According to a source from the French Executive to the AFP news agency, any athlete who enters the country to compete must be vaccinated to be able to enter the venue where the event takes place.
This measure would begin to be applied in the next international tournaments that France will organize, such as the Six Nations rugby tournament, which is scheduled from February 5 to March 19.
The same would happen with the traditional tennis tournament, Roland Garros, which will be at the end of May.
Last week, the French Sports Minister, Roxana Maracineanu, had slipped that the health bubble format would allow the participation of unvaccinated foreign athletes, as in the case of Serbian Novak Djokovic.
With this new measure, the unvaccinated athlete will be able to enter the country but would need a health pass to enter the sports establishment where the competition will take place with the presence of the public.
To avoid the Djokovic scandal in Australia, the president of the French Tennis Federation, Gilles Moretton, said on Sunday that he was already working together with the public authorities to put together a regulation “in good time” to receive “unvaccinated foreign athletes ” at the second Grand Slam of 2022.
