FP approves regulations for thematic roundtables of the congress

Santo Domingo.- The Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, the main opposition organization in the Dominican Republic, chaired and led by former President Leonel Fernández, has taken a crucial step in its institutional strengthening process by approving the regulations for the Thematic Roundtables of its Second National Congress and First Ordinary Congress “Dr. Franklin Almeyda Rancier”.

This congress, considered the highest authority of the party, is established as a space for reflection and debate of ideas that involves its main leaders and activists.

According to a press release, the Thematic Roundtables will be a participatory forum where members of the organization, including those from the Central Directorate, the Provincial Directorates, Municipal Directorates, Electoral District Directorates, Municipal District Directorates, as well as the Middle and Sectional Directorates from abroad, will discuss and approve proposals that will define the political and institutional guidelines of the FP.

These proposals will be shared with territorial and national organizations for their implementation, guaranteeing the coherence of the party’s institutionality and its actions as a proactive force in defense of the interests of the Dominican people.

In total, 19 Thematic Roundtables have been established, oriented towards four main axes: Statutory Reforms and their Regulations, Convergence between the Organizational Line and the Electoral Line, Design of the Opposition Political Line, and Congressional, Municipal, Social, Sectoral Policy and Digital Transformation.

The information released to the media indicates that the Thematic Roundtables will be: Statutory Reform and Regulations; Organizational and Electoral Line; Congressional and Municipal Politics; Opposition Line; Political Communication, Marketing, Propaganda and Party Brand; Finance, Administration, Budget, Quality of Spending and Accountability; Digital Transformation; Youth Policies; Women’s Policies; Social, Community and Sectoral Policies; Party-Society Links; Discipline, Ethics and Transparency; Institutionalization and Party Modernization; Political Training; Foreign Policy and International Alliances; Economic Policy; Environment and Natural Resources; Defense and Citizen Security; and Dominicans Abroad.

In this regard, it was explained that registrations to participate in the Thematic Roundtables will be done online through a virtual platform that will be enabled for this purpose.

The tables will be organized considering the territoriality (National, Regional, Provincial, Municipal and Abroad) and by sectors such as Education, Health, Housing, Agriculture, Social Security, Environment and others.

“Each panel will have a responsible team made up of a coordinator, a sub-coordinator, a secretary, a rapporteur and a proofreader and document editor. While the coordinators will be appointed by the Congress Organizing Committee, the other members will be selected by the participants of the thematic panels, taking into account the profile required for each function,” the statement said.

Finally, the documents approved at the thematic tables will be submitted to the plenary session of Congress for ratification, in compliance with the party statutes.

With this process, the Fuerza del Pueblo reaffirms its commitment to internal democracy and its vision for the future, betting on a broad and pluralistic debate that strengthens its structure and allows it to continue being a proactive entity in Dominican politics.
