The fourth case of hantavirus in the province of Herrera was confirmed this Tuesday, in a 51-year-old male patient, resident in the community of Villa Rosa, township of El Pájaro, district of Pesé.
This is a patient who was diagnosed with Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome, for which he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Joaquín Pablo Franco Sayas Hospital, in Las Tablas, Los Santos province.
In the first instance, the patient was treated at the Dr. Cecilio A. Castillero hospital, where he was evaluated and medical tests were started to confirm the suspicion of the disease.
After confirmation of the diagnosis, and due to his condition, he was transferred to receive medical attention in the ICU.
Through the sections of Vector Control, Epidemiology and the health teams of the Pesé district, the investigation of the case began, the perifoco in the surroundings of the patient’s home and the placement of traps to catch rodents.
The province maintains during the year 2022 a total of four cases of hantavirus, of which three patients developed cardiopulmonary syndrome and one patient hantavirus fever.
The cases have been confirmed three in the district of Pesé and one in the district of Parita, so far.
