Fourteen provinces of the country are under meteorological alerts for storms, snowfall and winds, with gusts that can reach 110 kilometers per hour, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
The agency, in the 6.17 update, issued an orange alert by storms for the city of Buenos Aires and the center and northeast of the province of Buenos Aires, where accumulated precipitation values between 30 and 60 millimeters are expected.
This area will be affected “by strong or severe storms, which will be accompanied by very intense gusts, strong electrical activity, hail fall and abundant water fall in short periods,” as reported.
Meanwhile, they are under yellow alert for storms the towns of General San Martín, Marcos Juárez and Unión in the province of Córdoba; and in Caseros and General López in Santa Fe.
Accumulated precipitation values between 20 and 50 millimeters are expected there, storms of varying intensity, some of which may be locally strong, accompanied by intense gusts, strong electrical activity, occasional hail, and abundant rainfall in short periods.
In addition, in the towns of Meseta de Corpen Aike, Meseta de Güer Aike and Meseta de Lago Argentino de Santa Cruz there is a yellow alert for rain today, where accumulated precipitation values between 15 and 35 millimeters are expected.
The SMN also issued an orange alert for Zonda winds for the province of Mendoza and yellow for Catamarca, La Rioja, Salta, San Juan and Tucumán.
The Malargüe area, in the province of Mendoza, will be affected this Tuesday by the Zonda wind with intensities that will range between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour and gusts that can exceed 100 kilometers per hour.
In the rest of the provinces affected by the yellow alert, wind intensities are expected to vary between 45 and 65 kilometers per hour with gusts that can exceed 70 kilometers.
There is also a yellow alert for winds for this Tuesday in the Cordillera area of the provinces of Neuquén, Mendoza, San Juan, La Rioja and Catamarca, as well as in the south of San Luis, center and north of La Pampa and northwest of the Buenos Aires province.
In the Andean zone, the winds coming from the western sector can reach speeds between 65 and 90 kilometers per hour with gusts that can exceed 110 kilometers; while in the other provinces speeds between 30 and 50 kilometers per hour are expected, and gusts of up to 75.
Finally, the SMN also issued yellow and orange alerts for snowfall for the provinces of Mendoza and Neuquén, respectively.
In Neuquén, the towns of Cordillera de Aluminé, Cordillera de Chos Malal, Cordillera de Loncopué, Cordillera de Minas, Cordillera de Picunches and Cordillera de Ñorquín are under orange alert, where snowfalls of varying intensity are expected.
in these areas the accumulated snow is estimated between 40 and 60 centimeters (cm), being able to be overcome locally, mainly in the high mountain areas; while there will also be reduced visibility due to snow in suspension, due to the strong winds expected in the region.
Likewise, the Neuquén towns of Cordillera de Huiliches, Cordillera de Lácar and Sur de Aluminé will be affected by intense and persistent snowfalls, with accumulated snow that can reach between 20 and 40 cm in height; and the Cordillera de Malargüe and Cordillera de San Rafael de Mendoza areas expect snow accumulations between 40 and 80 cm high.
In both provinces, in addition, there will be a reduction in visibility as a result of the snow in suspension, due to the strong winds expected in the region.
