This October 12 marks four years since the death of General Raúl Isaías Baduel, former Minister of Defense, in state custody. Human rights and family organizations continue to demand justice.
«After 4 years there is still no independent investigation into the death of Raúl Isaías Baduel. “A former minister of Chávez who was later punished as a political prisoner for years, a victim of clandestine surgery against his will and his family,” Provea points out on its social networks.
The publication states that the soldier’s operation was performed in an operating room installed in a tent outside the hospital and without guaranteeing the corresponding postoperative care.
Provea recalls that the case of General Baduel has been reported by the UN Mission on Venezuela. In 2021, the Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela requested to initiate a “thorough, transparent and independent investigation” into the cause of the death of retired general Raúl Isaías Baduel.

For its part, the organization Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón affirms that the circumstances in which the general died “still demand truth and justice.”
On their social networks, the NGO points out that Baduel’s death “continues to be a call to memory and human dignity that no power should take away.”
Since the general’s death, his family has reported being victims of persecution and harassment by the Maduro administration. However, they assure that they will be able to “break them” and maintain their fight to achieve the freedom of Josnars Baduel, imprisoned in El Rodeo I prison and sentenced to 30 years in prison for the crimes of “treason to the country”, “terrorism”, “conspiracy”, “arms trafficking” and “criminal association.”
