The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, through the Specialized Section on Homicide and Femicide of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Colón and Guna Yala, managed to sentence Marcelino Saavedra Prestán, Benigno Nieto De Hoyos and Braulio Alberto Rodríguez to 33 years in prison, for the crimes of aggravated intentional homicide and deprivation of liberty; while Luis Solís De Hoyos was sentenced to 30 years for double homicide.
During the development of the oral trial, the Public Ministry was represented by the prosecutor José Leiva Alfonso, who managed to have the Trial Court find the four citizens guilty, after assessing the evidence and at the same time the accessory penalty of 5 years of prohibition was imposed, for the possession of firearms, once the main sanction had been served.
The event occurred on the night of June 4, 2018, in the township of Miramar, district of Santa Isabel, province of Colón when the 4 sentenced in the company of other people met with the purpose of committing crimes and moved to Caribbean Star Village Island, in possession of a firearm and a knife, where they deprived a woman of her liberty and took her along with two other men, who were later displaced by boat out to sea, where they were tortured and shot, oca killing the two citizens; In addition to this, the lifeless bodies were thrown into the ocean.
The woman was able to escape from those sentenced, before the double homicide was committed offshore.
