Four million people will have to prove their lives at INSS

Four million people will have to prove their lives at INSS

Four million beneficiaries of the National Social Security Institute (INSS) will have to provide proof of life to not have their benefit blocked. According to the institute, everyone has already been notified through the application My INSS or through the statement from the bank where the payment is made.Four million people will have to prove their lives at INSS

According to the INSS, the message was only delivered to beneficiaries whose proof of life could not be done automatically by the system.

Beneficiaries will have 30 days to provide proof of life, counting from the date of the notice to carry out the procedure.

The institute published a step-by-step guide to help beneficiaries regularize the situation:

  • Access the website or application My INSSlog in and follow the instructions for facial recognition, if requested;
  • In some banks, it is possible to carry out the Proof of Life online, directly through the bank’s application or website;
  • If preferred, the beneficiary can also appear in person at the bank branch responsible for the payment and present an official document with photo.

Who needs to do it?

Even with the new automatic system, in some cases the INSS is unable to confirm the Proof of Life alone. When this happens, the beneficiary must carry out the procedure themselves, which can be done through Meu INSS, through the bank’s app or website, or by going to the bank branch in person, if preferred.

Why is Proof of Life important?

Proof of Life is confirmation that the beneficiary is alive and has the right to continue receiving the social security benefit. The procedure is essential to prevent fraud and ensure that payments are made correctly, protecting the system and the money of those who have contributed their entire lives to the country.

Warning against scammers

Retirees and pensioners must be alert to scammers who try to deceive beneficiaries with false calls and messages, threatening to cut the benefit, requesting personal data or even scheduling false appointments.

The INSS does not make direct contacts asking for the Proof of Life to be carried out nor does it send messages via WhatsApp, SMS or apps, threatening to block the benefit. It also does not send servers to beneficiaries’ homes to collect documents or carry out the proof of life procedure.

Questions can be clarified through the official INSS channels:

  • Website: gov.br/inss
  • Application My INSS
  • Central 135 (opens from Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 10pm)
