Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador and Costa Rica issued statements, following those of the United States and Peru, to recognize González Urrutia as president-elect
Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador and Costa Rica issued statements on the morning of Friday, July 2, in which they recognized opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia as president-elect.
Diana Mondino, head of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, indicated in her remarks social networks Buenos Aires, based on the data published by the opposition, considers González Urrutia the winner. In addition, the Foreign Ministry of that country issued a statement expressing its concern about the election results in Venezuela.

Then, his Uruguayan counterpart, Omar Paganinisaid that, according to the “overwhelming evidence,” it is “clear” to the Latin American nation that González Urrutia had the majority of votes and expected the will of the people to be respected.

The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry then issued a statement in which it ratified its decision, arguing that, five days before the election, where no verification mechanisms have been established, coupled with the position established by the Carter Center and the presentation of data by the opposition, is sufficient proof for that country to support the opposition.

Costa Rica joined the initiative of these countries by stating that President Nicolás Maduro “did not receive the majority of votes from Venezuelans, so we refute the fraudulent proclamation that he won the elections.”

Ecuador’s Foreign Ministry also supported Edmundo González Urrutia, noting that alleged irregularities were reported in the Venezuelan process.

The decision of these nations comes after Peru and the United States recognized the opposition leader as president-elect.
United States (US) Secretary of State Anthony Blinken pointed out on the night of Thursday, August 1st that the presidential candidate of the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, won the presidential elections on July 28.
“The electoral data overwhelmingly demonstrate the will of the Venezuelan people: the democratic opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia obtained the most votes in Sunday’s elections,” the official said.
The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, announced this Friday 2nd of August the second bulletin of the presidential elections of July 28th confirms the victory of President Nicolás Maduro with 6,408,844 votes, which translates to 51.95%.
Amoroso indicated that the opposition presidential candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, came in second place with 5,326,104 votes, representing 43.18%.
He then indicated the number of votes and the percentage of the electoral cake represented by the other candidates, who in the first bulletin were included in the “others” category.
