The director of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Diego Aboal, led this Tuesday the 4th a general rehearsal of the experimental census that will be carried out in October and November, as a simulation of the 2023 National Census. The objective is to put the actions into practice and correct them to that instance. “We are comparing cartography and maps with reality, in order to correct incorrect information”, Aboal pointed out.
The rehearsal took place in the afternoon at the intersection of Acevedo Díaz and Cagancha streets, in the La Comercial neighborhood of Montevideo. INE pollsters were deployed in the area and conducted surveys of local residents.
Through this same modality, an experimental census will be carried out, first, in the next two months, which will serve as the background for the 2023 National Census, scheduled for April and May of that year.
The instance served to collate all the information systems and the field work, to determine their correct operation, Aboal explained to the Presidential Communication.
In addition, work was done to associate the UTE energy meters with households, which will allow completing the information via Web and identify each household with the corresponding information.

As of October 17, households included in this experimental stage will be able to complete the form Web and, on the 24th, the census takers will begin the work in person. The task will be, on the one hand, to complete the information of the households that did not carry out the census via Web and, on the other, request the code provided to the form, to those who did carry out the procedure.
The experimental census will be distributed in six neighborhoods of Montevideo: Cerrito, Las Acacias, Carrasco, La Teja, Pocitos, La Comercial. In the interior, meanwhile, it will be held in Lagomar, Canelones; in Guichón, Piñera and Beisso, Paysandú; and in Minas de Corrales, Rivera.
Regarding the call for census takers, Aboal said that some 1,000 people will be required for the pre-census phase, in February 2023, in order to check addresses. In addition, between 5,000 and 6,000 census takers will carry out the population census in April and May.
In addition, he stressed that the survey in 2023 will be carried out in a bimodal way, since it can be completed by Webon any electronic device and, after this stage is over, the census takers will come out in person.
The census enables and contributes to the application of public policies, such as the opening of a child and family care center (CAIF), a school or a polyclinic, Aboal exemplified. It will allow to obtain a clear image at the level of an apple and for about 10 years it will be the information used for public and private purposes, she specified.
