Four dead, including two minors, in a traffic accident in Ciego de Ávila

Havana/Four people died in a traffic accident in the early hours of December 29 on the Central Highway near the municipality of Majagua, in Ciego de Ávila. The victims are four members of a family, two of them minors, from Holguín, and the cause would supposedly be a collision with a truck that occurred when the driver of the Chinese MG car fell asleep.

The information was offered by an anonymous profile from the Accidents, buses & trucks group, for more experience and fewer victims. The testimony is from a worker who, without identifying himself, claims to be accustomed to this type of accidents due to his profession, so he could be a member of a rescue or police team.

“Our deepest condolences go to his family and friends. Please, if you are exhausted, do not drive,” he added to the description of the events and the number of victims.

The message was accompanied by brutal images of the accident, which show how the vehicle completely lost its engine. “I was personally in the accident and it is somewhat scary, even though I am trained for it, but it is somewhat difficult,” the author of the message insisted. “Please, I tell or suggest to the drivers that if they are tired, they stop. “There is nothing more important than reaching our destination in health for ourselves and our family. Be aware of that, do not involve your families and others in something that cannot be solved.”

The post was responded to by hundreds of comments that provided information.

The passengers of the damaged vehicle had resided, according to users, in Alto Cedro, although they currently lived in the city of Holguín. According to a user, they were two brothers – surnamed Aguilar – and their respective children. At least one of them was 14 years old.

According to several comments, the deceased were robbed of their belongings in the moments after the event, although a user has refuted the version and states that they were handed over to experts for later delivery to relatives.

“They had sold a car, they didn’t come to buy. They took the money, phones and several clothes,” says a man who identifies himself as a neighbor of the victims and supports several comments that accuse the deceased of being robbed after the accident.

“Error, the phones of the four and the clothes they had, at least the one under 14, which was a thick chain and a thin one, were handed over to the experts who were at the scene and they kept it with the rest of the belongings to the family,” says another.

Christmas is one of the times when the most traffic accidents occur, due among other reasons to the increase in road trips, since many Cubans travel to spend those moments with their families. The consumption of alcohol at this time, the rush to reach the destination, the poor condition of the roads and the overload of passengers in vehicles also contribute to more accidents occurring on the roads.

Only a week before this incident, on December 22, another traffic accident in Ciego de Ávila. In this case, there was one death and 11 injuries when a truck from the Acopio Company, which was transporting people from the town of Perea to Pina, overturned on a curve and fell on the side of the road.
