A tragic traffic accident occurred on the afternoon of this Tuesday, January 14, on the La Peña – Tobia road, Cundinamarca, near the Rejo tollbooth.
An intermunicipal bus, carrying 12 people, fell into an abyss, leaving four dead, including a 15-year-old minor, who is presumed to be the driver’s son.
The bus, belonging to the Santafé transportation company, covered the La Peña – Bogotá route on its scheduled 3:00 p.m. route.

However, the vehicle did not reach its destination due to the accident that resulted in the loss of human life and serious injuries to the survivors.
The eight injured people were transferred to different healthcare centers in the region, including hospitals in San Francisco, La Vega and Villeta, to receive immediate medical attention.
Images from the accident scene show the vehicle completely destroyed, reflecting the seriousness of the incident.
Rescue authorities and fire departments from the municipalities of Útica, Nocaima and Nimaima responded to the emergency with the support of hospital personnel.
Possible causes of the accident
Although investigations are ongoing, several hypotheses are being put forward about the possible causes of the accident. The authorities suspect that it could have been due to a mechanical failure or excessive speed, factors that will be evaluated in the technical analyzes of the vehicle.
The captain of the Cundinamarca Fire Department, Álvaro Farfán, reported that rescue and care efforts were coordinated for those affected. “The care is provided by the different fire departments in the region, as well as the hospital centers of San Francisco, La Vega and Villeta.”, assured Captain Farfán.
