Havana Cuba. — Four deceased, including a 20-year-old pregnant woman, and two injured was the initial balance of a traffic accident that occurred this Saturday, April 9, at kilometer 306 of the National Highway.
According to a report from the provincial channel Telecubanacan“The incident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on the section between Placetas and Fomento in the province of Villa Clara, as a result of the collision of a rental car and a Chevrolet machine, both vehicles from the province of Camaguey” .
For his part, Lieutenant Kyslert Martínez, criminal instructor, declared to the same outlet that “the tourist car coming from Havana bound for Camagüey and where three passengers were travelling, invaded the opposite path by dodging a speed bump, hitting the road head-on. Roxana Castillo Frometa, 20 years old, 20 weeks pregnant and resident in Camagüey, Reinier Pavón Cabrera, 32 years old, from the municipality of Santa Cruz del Sur, Camagüey. Ángel Cecilio Rivero Pérez, 53 years old from the municipality of Nuevitas, Camagüey. Orlando Rodríguez Hernández, 55 years old from the municipality of Florida, Camagüey.
The injured are: Silverio Espino Castro, 61 years old, driver of the Chevrolet machine, and Héctor García Martínez, 40 years old, driver of the tourist car, both residents of Camagüey.
During the first four months of 2021 alone, Cuba registered 2,403 traffic accidents, with a high incidence of the “human factor” in more than half of the events.
According to official figures, between January and April 2021, one deceased person was reported every 20 hours and one injured person every one hour and 36 minutes.
The Cuban authorities indicate that among the main causes of accidents on the island are the aging of the fleet, poor signaling of the roads, speeding and the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
