The arrest of a local employee of the Argentine Embassy occurred on Friday, December 13. Buenos Aires described the action as “unjustified”
The Alliance for Development in Democracy, composed of Costa Rica, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Panama, issued a statement on the night of Sunday, December 15, to reject the detention of an employee of the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, carried out by security officials of the State.

For this reason, the Alliance demanded the immediate release of the detained employee, the delivery of safe conduct to the asylum seekers and compliance with international law by the administration of Nicolás Maduro.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the night of Friday December 13 to condemn a second “arbitrary and unjustified” detention of a local employee of the Argentine diplomatic representation in Venezuela. With this, there would be two officials of that government detained in the country and reported in less than three hours, since it was previously known about the arrest of an Argentine gendarme, First Corporal Nahuel Agustín Gallo.
“This action constitutes a flagrant and unacceptable violation of international standards that guarantee the inviolability of diplomatic headquarters and the protection of their personnel, including those who perform essential functions,” reads part of the statement.
The institution pointed out that it was not an isolated event, but part of a sustained campaign of harassment, intimidation and psychological violence against opposition asylum seekers and employees of the Argentine mission. A situation that worsened in recent weeks with water and electricity outages.

This situation joins the one reported on Saturday December 14 by opponents sheltered in the headquarters of the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, who warned that they are in a high-risk situation, after the constant stalking of the security forces of the government of Nicolás Maduro at the embassy.
Pedro Urruchurtu, Magalli Meda and Omar González, representing the six people who are taking refuge in the embassy, made a public statement today for the first time to the national and international media.
“Conditions are increasingly complex for all of us. We are in a high-risk situation, in addition we are alone at the headquarters, the staff who work are not there because they went on collective vacation,” said Magalli Meda.
