Four convicted for their relationship with international arms trafficking

The Justice issued a sentence against four people linked to international arms trafficking from the United States and destined for Brazil.

The investigation began when Customs personnel present at the Carrasco International Airport seized two parcels from the United States. Upon reviewing them, officials found four PMAG30 AR/M4 long gun magazines (compatible with AR15, M4 and M16 assault rifles).

The investigations allowed the authorities to identify the people who appeared as consignees of the parcels. In addition, the investigations made it possible to determine that the main consignee was trafficking arms internationally. The defendant brought the chargers to deliver them to a person residing on the border between melo and Brazil; the latter, in turn, directed the ammunition to Brazilian territory.

With the information collected, the agents carried out raids in Montevideo, Canelones and Melo. There they detained six people, among whom were the main targets of the operation. In turn, they seized a Glock 9 mm pistol and a 22-caliber Bersa with ammunition.

Of those detained, four appeared before the 1st Court of First Instance and all (three men and one woman) were sentenced. The proven crimes included unauthorized possession of a firearm; assistance and international trafficking of firearms, ammunition, explosives and other materials. The sentences ranged from 24 months of probation to the same sentence, but effective prison.
