Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and the Dominican Republic rejected the candidacy proposed by the Nicaraguan dictatorship, of former Foreign Minister Denis Moncada Colindres, to occupy the position of Secretary General of the Central American Integration System (SICA), according to an offensive note that the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, addresses the four governments, dated November 28 (yesterday).
“We have received your disrespectful and imposing Joint Note of today, November 28, 2024, which highlights your continuous, illegal and inappropriate blockade of Nicaragua, according to all the Treaties and Regulations that govern the Central American Integration System,” says the document of the regime, which although it is signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has all the characteristics that it was written by Rosario Murillo herself.
Although until now it is not officially known that there has been a veto by the four countries, the Nicaraguan dictatorship is in charge of revealing in the note that Moncada Colindres was rejected to occupy that position in the Central American instance.
«The former Chancellor of the Republic of Nicaragua, Retired Companion General Denis Moncada Colindres, has had and has the Recognition of Governments, Peoples and Countries of the World, Recognition and Respect that cannot be ignored and/or denied by those who subscribe to this absurd Communication,” says the Managua government, revealing its bitterness.
Again he threatens to “take action”
Given what the dictatorship calls “unusual insubordination of Governments and Chanceries”the Nicaraguan Executive once again threatens the countries of the region. This time he says that “Nicaragua is considering some measures that we will communicate in due course.”
Related news: If Ortega leaves SICA, “the shot in the foot would be brutal and he would not last weeks in office,” says Eliseo Núñez
He accuses the countries of “disrespect in which they have shamefully fallen” and of denying “absolutely and insanely, the power of our Country to designate our own Candidates.”
The last few months have been tense for the Managua regime with the SICA countries, because the governments of the region have rejected four shortlists of candidates to occupy the General Secretariat, which by rotation corresponds to Nicaragua until 2026.
Before the rejection of former Foreign Minister Denis Moncada, the Sandinista regime had tried to have the current Foreign Minister, Valdrack Jaentschke, accepted as general secretary. In reaction to this rejection, Rosario Murillo herself threatened to “dispense” from SICA.
“We will propose holding new Meetings to reach the increasingly necessary decision, which cannot continue to be postponed, unless Central America decides to dispense with this System, instead of strengthening it,” the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry said at that time.
At the same time, Rosario Murillo vented her “fury” against the opponents who criticized Jaentschke. During his daily speech, for 7 minutes he described his opponents as “stupid”, “obscure specimens” and even “palillonas and palillonas of non-existent parades.”
