Four candidates for the governorship of Central

There are four main candidates for the governorship of the Central Department. The ANR has two defined candidates, on the one hand, Chartism proposes Miguel Tadeo Rojas, current national deputy and who, in 2017, during 31-M, served as Minister of the Interior. He replaced Erico Galeano, his teammate in Parliament, when he declined his candidacy after being tainted by links to organized crime.

The ruling party (“Force Republic”), proposes Luis Fernando González, mayor of Capiatá. He himself launched his candidacy at the end of January. He has held the administration of said city since 2015 (two terms).

On the part of the PLRA, the figures of Édgar Acosta appear, a national deputy who announced that he likes the idea but that he will decide on it in the month of May. The legislator became public after receiving a rubber bullet in the face during the demonstrations on March 31, 2017. The incident led to the need for a surgical intervention in Brazil.

On the other hand, there is the figure of Ricardo Estigarribia, mayor of Villa Elisa, who received a lot of popular acceptance during the pandemic, when he proactively built three contingency pavilions in his city, despite limited resources.

SAMANIEGO
Francisco Samaniego, a sociologist, said that between the Central department and Alto Paraná the largest number of electorate is disputed. So having the power of the governorship is key to presidential voting.

“Tadeo Rojas belongs to the team that has the power in the ANR. As much as Luis Fernando González is in the ruling party. The government is outgoing and shows no signs of continuity. Basically, from my perception Tadeo Rojas is better, “he explained.

Then, he questioned that the two opposition candidates have not yet defined their candidacies. Acosta affirmed that in May he will make the decision, while Estigarribia maintained that he will take the time to analyze it.

“Acosta is very exposed to the media. He conveys an image related to transparency and controls. Since he was working to control the purchases made by the State during the pandemic. His figure can be established if he manages to negotiate that, “while Estigarribia’s figure was also enhanced during the pandemic for taking urgent health measures that were very well received at the time by social perception, he commented.

DUARTE

Rocío Duarte, a political scientist, expressed that the elections will depend on how the votes are added.

“There are people here with very different profiles. With very different management results. If we were guided by what the management has been, it would be very interesting for the department, that the success stories in the municipalities be transferred to the departmental entity, ”he said.

He warned that the elections do not go through management in the municipalities, so it is very premature to venture who is better positioned.

“The most visible is the case of Villa Elisa, but what was achieved was thanks to an existing team. The ability to produce positive results depends very much on who the unelected public officials are. I don’t think that for doing good management in the commune he would be elected governor, because the work depends on his teams, ”he commented.

He finally warned that the accusations of corruption against the current governor Hugo Javier González (chartist) will not influence the voting.

“Facing the internal elections and the following general ones, it is the internal numbers that are going to weigh more than the allegations of corruption,” he concluded.
