In the afternoon of Tuesday, the Society of Jesus in Chile confirmed the opening of a canonical investigation against the Jesuit priest Felipe Berríos, who was denounced for acts of “sexual connotation” that he would have carried out when the complainant was a minor.
As a result of this, the Foundation for Confidence explained that it accompanied the woman in the presentation of the action she made before the Archbishopric of Santiago last Friday, April 29. This was confirmed by the institution’s lawyer, Juan Pablo Hermosilla, who indicated that “indeed we have been supporting this young woman who decided to denounce Felipe Berríos canonically for some time.”

“We hope that this investigation can be carried out in the most expeditious framework of transparency and efficiency possible on the part of the Society of Jesus and that the veracity of the reported facts be determined promptly,” he added.
On the other hand, the executive director of the organization, Valentina Correa, stated that “at Fundación para la Confianza we have been fighting against abuse for more than 10 years. We filed a complaint against the priest Felipe Berríos and what we are hoping for is that it be a careful and kind process for the victim.”
Correa emphasized that “in our organization the doors will always be open for people who would like to tell their story and find a place of accompaniment and welcome here.” “Our position as an organization is with the victim,” she closed.
