After the file of the investigation against Gustavo Leal determined by the new prosecutor of the Astesiano case, Sabrina Floresher predecessor in that role, Gabriela Fossati –that a month ago he stopped being in charge of the cause– defended the investigation of the former head of the Ministry of the Interior and leader of the Broad Front.
“In the framework of technical independence, I do not have an opinion on what was resolved by Flores. I still believe there was a lot to investigate and I would have done it.”wrote Gabriela Fossati on her Twitter account on Saturday night.
The former prosecutor in the Astesiano case also assured that “no telephone intervention was ever requested”, but that “she requested the location of two cell phones to confirm or rule out the location of two people in the same place.” Portal 257 reported that criminal judge Fernando Islas had denied the Prosecutor’s request for access to the devices.
The Prosecutor’s Office had filed the investigation launched by Fossati into Leal on Friday after the former presidential custodian, Alejandro Astesiano, denounced that the sociologist had visited his father at his home in Chuy. “This is a conversation between two free adults. There were no other two witnesses. There was no offer of any money,” said the spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office, Javier Benech.
Flores understood that after a “exhaustive” analysis becomes effective article 10 of the Constitution of the Republicwhich establishes: “The private actions of people who in no way attack public order or harm a third party, are exempt from the authority of magistrates. No inhabitant of the Republic will be forced to do what is not mandated by law, nor deprived of what she does not forbid”.
