For some, Iemanjá Day, for others, the day of the patron saint of Fortaleza, Our Lady of the Assumption. This August 15, crown the religious syncretism so remarkable in Brazilian culture. Spirituality is in celebration, focusing on gratitude. The president of the Ceará Spiritist Union of Umbanda, mother key of Tupinambá, explains the meaning of the feast of Iemanjá.
“One of the most important honors that exists here in the state of Ceará. Through the feast of Iemanjá, began in the 1930s, in the 1980s, with Manuel Rodrigues de Oliveira, we began to have a manifestation of Afrobrasileira matrix, because at that time it was totally forbidden. We had to go into the dark forest to worship our religion. He chose this date on behalf of religious syncretism, per being the patron saint of Fortaleza, Our Lady of the Assumption. “
For 60 years, Iemanjá Day has been celebrated on Praia do Futuro. Mother Tupinambá key highlights the figure of Iemanjá. “Iemanjá is the mother of all the orishas. So come people from all over the state, from other states to honor Iemanjá, to thank the graces received with the theme of this year ’60 years of love, struggle and faith. ‘”
The schedule starts at 8am. There will be a procession with image of the Queen of the Sea. The activities continue every day at Praia do Futuro, with cultural presentations, institutional speech and rituals. On Iracema beach, there will also be honors to the Queen of the Sea.
