The Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, the main tournament for the youth categories of national football, saw 11 more teams qualify for the third phase (elimination). Among them is Fortaleza, which this afternoon beat América-MG – undefeated in the group stage – 3-1 on penalties, after a 1-1 draw in normal time. In the next knockout game, Leão do Pici will face Ituano, who topped the table on penalties: they won 17-16, the biggest penalty score in the history of the Copinha, after 0-0 in the 90 minutes.
The last five places will be defined tonight, in the last four duels of the second phase: Audax-SP x Votoraty-SP; Falcon-SE x Corinthians; Palmeiras x Reference-SP; Novorizontino x Athletico-PR and Bragantino x Flamengo. The matches have live broadcast on the São Paulo Football Federation channel on YouTube.

The afternoon was also a party for three other clubs. Vasco eliminated Juventus-SP by winning 1-0 with a goal from Léo Jacó. In the third phase, Cruzmaltino will face Ceará, who advanced this Monday morning (13) by defeating XV de Piracicaba 4-0. The Alagoas team Zumbi also qualified, with a 1-0 victory over União Suzano-SP. Zumbi’s next duel will be against the winner of Bragantino x Flamengo – the game will be at 9:45 pm (Brasília time). Finally, Vila Nova eliminated Santo André 1-0, and awaits the result of Falcon x Corinthians to find out their next rival in the knockout stage.
Other classifications
The day started well for Ibrachina-SP, who defeated Barra-SC by a score of 2-0. In the third phase, the team from the Mooca neighborhood, in São Paulo, will face Flamengo-SP, who secured the classification by defeating Náutico 1-0 in the early afternoon.
Sport also advanced to the stage, with a 5-4 victory over Oeste-SP on penalties, after 0-0 in the 90 minutes. The Pernambuco team’s opponent will be the winner of the Palmeiras x Reference-SP game, starting at 7:30 pm this Monday (13).
Another classified in penalty kicks was Goiás, who defeated Vitória da Conquista-BA 5-4, after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Esmeraldino will face Grêmio in the third phase. Tricolor Gaúcho advanced after beating Marcílio Dias 1-0 earlier this afternoon.
The 55th edition of Copinha started on the 2nd round and ends on January 25th, a public holiday in the capital of São Paulo, with the final at Pacaembu. The first phase brought together 128 clubs, divided into 22 groups, with only the top two in each group advancing to the second phase (elimination).
The third phase (knockout) that classifies the round of 16 begins at 11 am this Tuesday (14). .
