Looking ahead to the 2024 presidential elections, lawyer Wanda Cedeño, coordinator of Voto Joven, said in a forum chat held by SuchWhich that the electoral system in Venezuela is reliable and that it cannot be violated by the National Electoral Council (CNE). In addition, he explained what voters should know before going to vote on Sunday, July 28.
The presidential elections in Venezuela will be held on July 28 and, during this process, citizen participation has played a leading role. This was stated by Wanda Cedenonational coordinator of the organization Youth Vote during a chat forum held by SuchWhich July 27th.
«Little by little, the power of voting and participation in the public space has been vindicated after years in which doubts arose around the electoral system»said the lawyer.
He pointed out that the activation of citizens has been fundamental for the training of the members of the table, for the dissemination of the campaigns and to promote the registration in the Electoral Registry (RE) of new voters and the updating of data, because without this “we would not have been able to overcome the series of obstacles of misinformation, but also of opacity that occurred within the framework of this electoral process”he said.
He also indicated that citizen participation must continue in the days following the election “to combat the possibility of misinformation that may arise and the media hegemony, but also to confirm and verify the information that we are transmitting.”
Confidence in the electoral system
Cedeño acknowledged that there are myths and mistrust regarding the automated voting system in Venezuela. In response to this, he said that There are multiple ways to confirm the integrity of the ballot. “One of them, and perhaps the most important, is the electoral audits that are carried out not days before, but months before the electoral process by independent electoral technicians,” such as university professors and witnesses from the different political organizations.
He also stressed that it is not possible to know for whom a citizen voted through the voting machines. The system cannot be opened and violated by the National Electoral Council (CNE) because it also has physical keys that prevent this from happening,” so the reliability of the voting system is “very high.”

On the other hand, he reminded that the only requirements that citizens must meet to vote are to be registered in the RE and to have a laminated identity card. “It does not matter if it is valid or expired,” he said.
If irregularities are observed, Citizens can file complaints through civil society organizations. From Voto Joven, Cedeño explained that they will be monitoring the process and that they have a chat bot on Telegram that will help Venezuelans report incidents related to human rights violations in the process. In addition, this tool explains to users how to vote.
Clothing and photos at the polling station
The coordinator of Voto Joven pointed out that The Organic Law on Electoral Processes does not establish limitations on the clothing of people when voting. However, he recalled that during the special registration day of the RE it was observed that some officials limited the right to register of new voters who attended wearing low-cut tops, T-shirts, shorts, among others. Therefore, he recommends avoiding this type of clothing.
Finally, he stressed that the voting receipt cannot be photographed, as it is an electoral crime stipulated in the Organic Law of Electoral Processes, but the voting line and the entrance to the electoral center can be documented, “as long as no public officials appear,” he pointed out.
