Perfect. This was the weekend for British driver Lando Norris, from McLaren. After winning the sprint race and recording pole position on Saturday (8), he won the Brazilian GP this Sunday without any major threats from his opponents at the Interlagos race track.
Consequently, Norris, who started the weekend with just one point ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri, is now 24 points ahead of his opponent, who finished in fifth place. Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes and Max Verstappen, from RBR, completed the podium in São Paulo.
The race was full of emotions from the first lap. Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, from Sauber, who had failed to record a time in qualifying after an accident in the sprint race, started in last position and was involved in another accident, this time with Canadian Lance Stroll, from Aston Martin. Bortoleto had to abandon the race.
Also at the beginning, Lewis Hamilton, from Ferrari, had an accident with Franco Colapinto, from Alpine. After falling to last place, the Briton ended up abandoning the race later.
Upon resumption, another accident: Antonelli, Piastri and Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari, were in a dispute on the 6th lap and the Monegasque, who had started in third position, got the worst of it, with one more person abandoning the race.
At the front of the classification, few emotions. Lando Norris was sovereign and, apart from moments of exchanges in the pits, he did not leave first position. One of these moments happened after the incredible recovery of four-time champion Max Verstappen, who started from the pit lane and reached the lead before needing to make his pit stop. The Dutchman, with the race he completed, remains in contention for the drivers’ title, in third place on the leaderboard, with 341 points, 49 less than Norris and 25 less than Piastri.
There are three races left until the end of the season, the next one will be on the 23rd, in Las Vegas, in the United States.
