Former President Lagos supports Jaime Ravinet in his candidacy for Constitutional Council: “He was a loyal collaborator in my government”

The former President of the Republic, Ricardo Lagos, expressed his support for Jaime Ravinet in his candidacy for the position of constitutional counselor. Through a video posted on the candidate’s social networks, the former president pointed out that Ravinet – who was simultaneously Minister of Housing and Urban Development and of National Assets in his administration – “was a loyal collaborator in my government.”

In addition, Lagos added that the candidate for the Chile Seguro list was responsible for “ending the last camp that existed at that time in Chile. A man of action who is capable of executing and who knows the state apparatus very well.”

Ravinet is competing as an independent to dispute a position on the Constitutional Council that will be elected on May 7 in a voting day with compulsory attendance. In addition to holding the aforementioned State portfolio, he headed the Ministry of Defense in the governments of Lagos and Sebastián Piñera, and served as mayor of the Santiago commune between 1990 and 2000.

The candidate belonged to the Christian Democrats from 1961 to 2010, when he assumed the Defense portfolio at the request of Piñera: after his resignation from the phalanx he has remained independent, although in his career for the council he has the support of Evolución Politics (Evópoli).
