Although he slipped that he is available to collaborate, former president Ricardo Lagos briefly addressed the initiative of the senator and president of the party in formation “Demócratas”, Ximena Rincón, who together with the national secretary of said group, Carlos Maldonado, pointed out that there are former leaders that they should be part of the Expert Commission —one of the three bodies of the new constituent process—.
Let us remember that, in addition to the Constitutional Council and the Technical Admissibility Committee, there will be an Expert Commission that will be made up of 24 people with “indisputable professional, technical and/or academic trajectories, of equal composition.” The Chamber of Deputies and Deputies will elect 12 members, while the Senate will appoint the other half.

After meeting with Rincón and Maldonado, asked if he was available to be part of the committee of experts that will start the constituent process agreed this week by the political parties, Lagos told the press that “you have to look at the card from time to time“.
For his part, Rincón stated that “it is fundamental to understand that the value that the figures of former presidents contribute with their experience, with the knowledge of the State, of the country, of the needs of men and women in the national territory, is without place undoubtedly a value that we cannot lose”.
“We have four ex-presidents who are still active, important in Chile, who could obviously add value to the team of experts,” added the legislator and former DC militant, announcing that Ricardo Lagos told her that he is available “whenever it is needed… if it is to go once or twice to collaborate”.
Along the same lines, Rincón and Maldonado met with the former head of state, Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, who assured that he was willing to collaborate, as long as all the former presidents are willing.
It is worth remembering the senator of the “Democrats” movement, Ximena Rincón, proposed that the four former presidents Sebastián Piñera, Michelle Bachelet, Ricardo Lagos and Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle integrate the Expert Commission. “We believe that the four former presidents have to be part of the names that are considered in this process and look for the rest of the experts to give support and seriousness to the constitutional proposal,” she said.
“If the will of Parliament is that the former presidents can be part of the commission of experts, I am sure that President Lagos will not refuse, but that is a matter that depends on the will of Parliament,” added Maldonado.
