José María Aznar is the third former president of the Spanish Government to receive González Urrutia in his exile in that country a week after his arrival
Former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar met on Monday, September 16, with opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, becoming the third former president linked to the Popular Party to receive the ambassador who is also exiled in Spain.
According to sources consulted by EFE, González Urrutia will speak on Tuesday, September 17 with the current leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, during a visit that the Venezuelan opposition leader will make to the Lower House a week after the plenary session of Congress approved the request to recognize him as president-elect at the request of the main opposition force in Spain.
The foundation chaired by Aznar, Faes, has regretted that González Urrutia – who has already been in the Iberian nation for a week – was “forced” to ask for asylum in Spain in the face of persecution by the Nicolás Maduro regime, believing that the Chavista president was seeking the exile of the “elected president” and has achieved this.
In addition, this foundation has accused the Government and former socialist president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero of “complicity” with the administration of Nicolás Maduro, the newspaper reports. The Weather.

Edmundo González Urrutia was received on Friday, September 13th by former Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who referred to the Venezuelan as “president-elect.”
Through his social networks, Rajoy published several images with González Urrutia in which they are seen talking and shaking hands. He said that it was “an honour” to receive the diplomat.
In this regard, he expressed his support for the democratic cause and that he also has his “admiration.”
He was later received by former President Felipe González. The two met when the Iberian was in hiding at a meeting held in Geneva in 1975.
This was stated in a press release from the Felipe González Foundation, which also ratified the former president’s will to “continue fighting to achieve a transition to democracy in Venezuela” while María Corina Machado “continues to resist in the country so that together they can assert the popular sovereignty expressed at the polls” in the elections of July 28.
