Former president disqualifies attempt of "TCP self-extended" for endorsing Arce’s referendum

The publication of the Corrected referendum questionspromoted by the Government of Luis Arce, on the portal of the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP) was disqualified by former president Eduardo Rodríguez Veltzé, who recalled that this court does not have jurisdiction for this task.

“The ‘self-extended’ TCP lacks jurisdiction and legitimacy to speak out, much less to validate an inopportune referendum,” wrote Rodríguez Veltzé on his account, @erveltze. He presided over the extinct Supreme Court of Justice until 2004, when he had to assume the presidency of the country due to the resignation of Carlos Mesa.

On Wednesday morning, the three questions that Arce intends to put to a referendum appeared on the TCP website: One referring to the modification of article 168 of the Political Constitution of the State (CPE) and indefinite reelection; and two others, which attempt to gradually eliminate the subsidy on diesel and gasoline.

The Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, published a post on his account X, in which he points out that there is a “independence of powers” in the State and that being so, it will not comment on the publication.

“Due to the respect we have for the independence of the powers of the State, while the TCP does not make an official pronouncement on the questions we sent to it for constitutional control, We will not issue any opinion on these, nor on the Referendum called by President Luis Arce on August 6,” states the text of the message from Lima.
