The Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that at the request of the Compliance Section of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, a conviction was made effective against the former Ombudsman Patria Portugal of 96 months in prison for Aggravated Embezzlement, to the detriment of the Ombudsman’s Office, which occurred in 2012 .
The order became effective today, Tuesday, June 20, by DIJ units that proceeded with the arrest of the former official after completing a hearing requested by the Prosecutor’s Office.
While the National Police through its social networks confirmed the arrest of the former Ombudsman “Police units of the DIJ apprehend a former official who held the position of Ombudsman on the premises of Plaza Ágora, who maintains a sentence 8 years in prison for embezzlement”
Portugal was found guilty of embezzlement in September 2022 for having signed two contracts, one for the redesign of the website for $249,845 and another for staff training for $199,983.
The Public Ministry in its investigation managed to verify the link between Portugal and the crime of embezzlement and it was not until today, June 20, 2023, that the apprehension of the former official became effective.
