The former secretary of Petroleum of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, José Mauro Ferreira Coelho, was nominated to occupy the presidency of Petrobras, the ministry informed this evening (6th). The choice comes after economist and consultant Adriano Pires, previously appointed to the role, had announced the resignation.
Current chairman of the Board of Directors of Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (PPSA), the state-owned company responsible for marketing the oil and gas extracted from the pre-salt layer, Coelho was the Ministry’s Petroleum Secretary between March 2020 and October 2021. he was director of the Energy Research Company (EPE) and worked at the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) for 15 years.
José Mauro Ferreira Coelho was chosen by President Jair Bolsonaro to assume the presidency of Petrobras and is a person trusted by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque.
The ministry also announced the appointment of Marcio Andrade Weber to be the new chairman of Petrobras’ Board of Directors. The nomination came after the president of the Flamengo football club, Rodolfo Landim, announced the resignation of the position on Sunday night (3).
A member of the state-owned company’s board, Weber was a member of the Services board of Petrobras Internacional and was a director of Petroserv. The two names need to be approved at Petrobras’ shareholders’ meeting on the 13th.
The government owns the majority of voting shares. In the case of Weber, the nominee for the presidency of the Board of Directors has already gone through all the stages of analysis of compliance with the company’s internal rules.
