Former ministers reject the departure of Alberto Carrasquilla from the Banrepública board

After the decision of the Council of State to remove the former minister and, now, former co-director of the Bank of the Republic, Alberto Carrasquilla, from his position, several statements were issued.

The first to come out to declare, is the current manager of the Issuer, Leonardo Villar said that, “I found out last night with great surprise the decision of the Council of State to annul the appointment of Alberto Carrasquilla as a member of the Board“.

In addition, he said he was faithful to the institutions and that “The decisions of the Justice have to be complied with. Notwithstanding the foregoing, I want to express that I regret this decision as it affects the appointment of a person whose training, experience and suitability for the position are widely recognized inside and outside the Bank,” he said.

Villar also thanked the former minister for his contribution to the Bank. “I am extremely grateful for the contributions of Dr. Carrasquilla to the Board and the Board of Directors of the Bank during the period in which he acted as a member of the institution, which were always characterized by their constructive nature and the depth of their analyzes and that on a personal level I regret Alberto’s retirement, who in this period helped to maintain an environment of great camaraderie and fluid communication with the rest of the Board, with the administration and with the technical teams of the Bank”, reads a communication from the entity.

For their part, several former ministers and members of the previous government issued a statement to public opinion in which they stated that “We deeply regret the decision of the Council of State, which ignores the autonomy and independence of the Bank of the Republic”, is read and also adds that, “we support Alberto Carrasquilla, the former minister who has led the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance for the longest years, who led Colombia fiscally in the greatest crisis in history and who, with his management, has shown their suitability above any political orientation”, he concludes.

Nevertheless, it is expected that a new co-director will be appointed in the coming days.
