Former Minister Eliseu Padilha died on Monday night (13), at the age of 77, in Porto Alegre. He was admitted to Hospital Moinhos de Vento to treat stomach cancer, discovered a month ago.
The information was confirmed by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). “With regret, I receive the news of the death of former minister and former deputy Eliseu Padilha. A historic part of the MDB, he was minister for three presidents and stood out in the Chamber as a skilled political articulator over four terms. , children and friends,” he tweeted.
In a note, the MDB mourned the death of the politician. “He leaves a strong legacy marked by dedication to projects in Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil”, highlighted the party. “He helped build and consolidate the Ulysses Guimarães Foundation, the MDB’s political training arm and political platforms. Padilha will always be recognized for his dedication and loyalty.”
Born in Canela, in Serra Gaúcha, Padilha graduated in law from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos and worked as a lawyer and businessman. He is survived by his wife, Simone Camargo, six children and five grandchildren.
Member of the MDB since 1966, Eliseu Padilha was mayor of Tramandaí (RS); Congressman; Minister of Transport in the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso; chief minister of the Civil Aviation Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic in the government of Dilma Rousseff; and chief minister of the Civil House in the government of Michel Temer.
