Former Mayor of Colón Dámaso García sentenced to 60 months in prison


During the process, Garcia was imposed precautionary measures prohibiting him from leaving the country, being notified every Monday and keeping his address for the duration of the investigation of his case.

The former mayor of the district of Colón, Dámaso García, was sentenced to 60 months in prison as the main perpetrator of the crime of embezzlement to the detriment of the municipality of Colón between January 2009 and June 2010.
This was indicated by the Public Ministry, noting that the Anti-Corruption Discharge Prosecutor’s Office achieved a 5-year sentence after having the evidence of the crime committed by the former mayor.

During the process to García imposed precautionary measures prohibiting him from leaving the country, being notified every Monday and keeping his address for the duration of the investigation of his case.

The second anti-corruption prosecutor’s office kept in its possession an audit carried out by the comptroller general of the republic on García’s management during 2009-2014; In addition to the inquiries, he carried out more than 10 people who were related to this case.
The documents detail García hired more than 18 people during his administration and they did not do their jobs and still received the salaries with which they were appointed.
