The former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Javier González Olaecheaassured that he was offered to be president of the Council of Ministers to replace Gustavo Adrianzen. However, he ruled out accepting that position in the current government.
“I received several calls through an intermediary and I did not want to give more explanations to the media out of respect for the person who gave me the opportunity to serve the country,” he said.
The former chancellor implied that his acceptance of the premiership was conditional on making changes in the cabinet, which would not have been accepted by the president. Dina Boluarte.
“I didn’t think about it much. [¿Qué te limitaba?] Having experienced some things that I would have preferred not to experience. (…) Some things were not being done well. “I made some proposals to the Council of Ministers, but they fell on deaf ears,” he said.
Presidential candidate
González Olaechea has announced his presidential candidacy for the Popular Christian Party, with a view to the 2026 general elections.
“I am happy to have regained a space of freedom to pursue a long-worked, prepared dream, which is to be a representative, the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic by the PPC (…) that is my aspiration, that is my decision and for that , back to the cameras,” he told a media outlet.
