Former Foreign Minister Ana Gervasi dies at 57

This Sunday, September 8, the news of the death of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the government of Dina Boluarte was confirmed, Ana Gervasiat 57 years old.

Her body was found in her apartment after being reported missing a few days ago.

Sources of Peru21 confirmed the death.

Gervasi was head of the Foreign Ministry from December 10, 2022 to November 6, 2023 in the government of the current president. In December of last year, she was appointed permanent representative of Peru to international organizations based in Geneva, Switzerland.

He arrived in Peru after Elmer Schialer assumed the leadership of the Foreign Ministry. He had confirmed his presence at the presentation ceremony in Torre Tagle, but did not arrive.

Ana Gervasi graduated in law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and completed a postgraduate degree in International Relations, as well as Diplomacy from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru.

She was Director General for Economic Affairs, Director General for Economic Promotion and Director of Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She was also appointed Consul General of Peru in Toronto, then Consul General of Peru in Washington DC and Minister Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Peru to the United Nations in New York (United States).

Before being Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of Dina Boluarte, she was Vice Minister in the same portfolio, during Pedro Castillo’s period as president from August 11, 2022 to December 10 of the same year.

She was also Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism from March 9, 2022 to August 11 of the same year.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its condolences

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the death of former Foreign Minister Ana Gervasi, issuing a statement expressing its condolences to the family.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deepest condolences to his family and friends, sharing in their grief at this sensitive loss, and requests the utmost respect for the privacy of his loved ones in these unfortunate circumstances.”

Likewise, the Presidency expressed its regret at the lawyer’s death on its social networks: “We extend our condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace,” they said.

Gustavo Adrianzén on Gervasi’s death:

“I am deeply shocked by the news. Ana Cecilia was a personal friend, an ambassador to the diplomatic service who provided services to the State in a brilliant manner. In honour of her memory, I prefer not to make any further comments,” the Prime Minister said in an interview with Punto Final.

Javier González-Olaechea extends his condolences

The former foreign minister, who was Gervasi’s successor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed his condolences after the death of Ana Cecilia Gervasi was confirmed.

“I deeply regret the passing of my predecessor, Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi, and I pray to the Creator for her eternal rest. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family,” she wrote on social media.
