United States President-elect Donald Trump made Newlin’s nomination.
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Wednesday that it will nominate former detective Daniel Newlin as ambassador to Colombia and the doctor Peter Lamelas as ambassador to Argentina, both positions that must be ratified by the Senate.
The Republican, who will assume power on January 20, also reported his intention to nominate businessman Leandro Rizzuto as representatives of the United States before the Organization of American States (OAS).

Trump announced that he will nominate Daniel Newlin, a former detective who worked for 28 years in the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Floridaand who founded the law firm Dan Newlin Injury Attorneys,
Trump highlighted in a statement that Newlin demonstrated “exceptional investigative skills” and pursued crimes such as armed robberies, gang violencehuman trafficking and arms and drug trafficking.
“With his law enforcement experience allowing him to navigate complex international issues and his business savvy that fosters economic partnerships, Newlin stands as a powerful advocate for America’s interests,” said Donald Trump.
He also detailed in his profile on the Truth Social network that Peter Lamelas, whom he wants to nominate as ambassador to Argentina, is a successful doctor and businessman from Florida.
Lamelas founded the medical care company MD Now Urgent Care in that state, which became one of the most important in the United States.
According to the Republican, the family of Lamelas fled Cuba when he was a child and its members “legally emigrated to the United States.”where they started a life from scratch and managed to achieve the American dream.
For representation before the OAS, Trump pointed to businessman Leandro Rizzuto, a major donor to the Republican’s campaign who for several years ran the small appliance and personal hygiene company Conair, founded by Rizzuto’s father.
During his first term (2017-2021), Trump nominated Rizzuto as ambassador to Barbados but did not achieve Senate ratification and ended up appointing him to a diplomatic position in Bermuda that did not require the approval of the Upper House.
