The defense of the former head of the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police Rivaldo Barbosa asked the Supreme Court (STF) on Tuesday to unlock his salary.
Barbosa was arrested last year In the context of the investigation that investigates his involvement in the murder of Councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, in 2018. With the arrest, his salary was blocked by determination of Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
In the petition, lawyers claim that Rivaldo Barbosa has been suspended for a year and needs donations to pay household bills. In a spreadsheet, the defense said monthly spending is $ 24,800.
“The accused has his accounts and salary blocked for almost a year, a situation that has been severely compromising the financial conditions of his family, which today depends on his income to the existential minimum,” says the defense.
In addition to Barbosa, the counselor of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Auditors (TCE-RJ) Domingos Brazil, Federal Deputy Chiquinho Brazão, Domingos’s brother, are arrested in federal prisons for the alleged involvement in Marielle’s murder. They are also defendants for the accusations.
According to the investigation conducted by the Federal Police, Marielle’s murder is related to the contrary position of the parliamentarian to the interests of the political group led by the Brazão brothers, who are linked to land issues in areas controlled by militias in Rio.
