Former DC presidents propose advancing a national meeting since “the party cannot stand between now and November 12”

A group of former presidents of the Christian Democracy signed a letter with which they seek to advance the next national meeting, the highest instance of the DC that is scheduled for November 12.

Among the signatories is former President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, Fuad Chahin, Andrés Zaldívar, Jorge Pizarro, Enrique Krauss, Miriam Verdugo, Carolina Goic, Juan Carlos Latorre and Ricardo Hormazábal.

In the letter they point out that “our efforts to overcome the internal crisis of the PDC through the historical path of agreements have unfortunately failed.”

“Convinced that our institutions can and should allow an appropriate solution to the crisis we face, we ask the delegates to the DC national board to convene themselves,” they complement.

For this, they propose that “it be held on Saturday, October 15 and it must be face-to-face, since the situation we are experiencing requires a special climate, which is only possible to the extent that there is direct communication between the comrades that make it up.”

According to Third, some of the signatories maintain that those who adhere would have the advantage of being able to fix the subject to be dealt with in the instance. So they could address the discussion about whether the current board of directors – headed by its interim president Aldo Mardones – should or should not continue in command.

It should be remembered that the document is given in the midst of a “flight” of militants from the DC, where several of them are in reflection, for which the national meeting of November 12 becomes a key date for the future of the community.
