AREQUIPA, Peru – At 58 years old, former Cuban soccer player Erick Hernández set a new record for mastering the ball by hitting it some 13,985 times during an hour with any part of his body.

According to the sports environment Hitthe island’s multiple world and Guinness record holder, this time chose the Copacabana Hotel in Havana as the setting for his feat.

The previous record belonged to the Mexican Abraham Muñoz, who had hit the ball 11,901 times.

“The Dominator had already passed that test with more than 12,000 touches, but on that occasion the Guinness Book of Records did not approve it because it considered the evidence presented insufficient,” the report states.

On this occasion, a group of international referees acted as observers and an extensive graphic record was available to begin the validation process.

“This test is very intense and required thorough preparationbut I have prepared for a long time and I was ready to do it,” said Hernández.

At the Havana hotel, the former soccer player thanked the work group that provided support, as well as the group of referees and the Cuban Soccer Association.

Last August, Hernández broke the mark of 3:07:28 hours controlling the ball from a sitting position with one and a half kilograms of weight on his legs.

The former soccer player has an enviable record of setting records in that discipline, to the point that this was number 80 in his extensive career.

The Cuban entered for the first time Guinness book of the records in 2005, for touching the ball with his head 319 times during one minute. Since then, he has established several brands and apparently the passage of time does not stop him.

“I am still active at almost 60 years old, because I have had a very methodical life, maintaining a balanced diet and respecting the work-rest relationship (…) To my followers, I tell them to have a lot of faith and confidence that I will achieve this record. Thanks to them I have maintained motivation,” highlighted Hernández.
